Bulgaria’s Stock Breeding Selection and Reproduction Executive Agency (SSREA) received a thank you letter from Christina Ligda, head of the European Regional Focal Point for Animal Genetic Resources (ERFP)Working Group.

Ligda led a working meeting on a project to develop models to assess the risk for breeds with the use of population and geo reference data. The meeting was held within the National Animal Engineers’ forum staged by SSREA in Hisar.

SSREA executive director Vasil Nikolov said the ERFP visit to Bulgaria is not just a great honour but also a recognition of the country’s work in the field of genetic resources as this is the first time an international institution of this kind has held its forum in Bulgaria.

The meeting was also attended by Lawrence Alderson, Founder President of Rare Breeds International (RBI) NGO and executive director of Rare Breeds Survival Trust charity group. He proposed organizing next spring a round table with SSREA to look into matters of protecting and developing horse breeding genetic resources, and marketing genetic resources.
