Bulgaria as well as other EU member states will seek compensations for damages for the losses suffered by cucumber producers after an outbreak of a deadly E.coli announced to journalists Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Miroslav Naydenov. It is not yet clear what are the losses for the Bulgarian producers. Spain suffered the greatest losses – about EUR 200 million weekly. The minister explained that the issue of compensation will be discussed on 17 June at an extraordinary Council of the EU Agriculture Ministers in Luxembourg, he added.

With the ban on EU imports imposed by Russia, additional losses will be registered. Claims for future earning will be made. Minister Naydenov hopes the ban to be removed very soon because it became clear yesterday that infection with bacteria Escherichia coli does not come from cucumbers in Spain.
