Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Tzvetan Dimitrov met with the Deputy Director of Department "Food Industry" of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Peter Bryde. During the meeting the possibility our country to establish itself as an important agricultural factor in the region, as well as the need for significant financial assistance to primary producers of agricultural products was discussed. The aim is producers to be encouraged to use more effectively and efficiently the arable land, and to achieve higher yields and incomes.
Both sides exchanged information about the practice of Brazil and in particular its law on credits for farmers. According to a survey made by the EBRD, it has been established that the most successful specific legislation and methods for its implementation have been developed in Brazil.
Deputy Minister Dimitrov said that Bulgarian legislation in this direction can be changed by using the practice of Brazil and other countries in this sphere. The main objective is to give farmers more funding opportunities.For this purpose a working team should be formed in order to analyze this issue and social and political consensus on relevant legislative changes to be achieved.
