There is no spread of contaminated with Escherichia coli in batches of Spanish cucumbers in Bulgaria. Two warning notifications have been received in Germany through the RASFF system in relation to an outbreak of E Coli. Notifications concern Enterohaemorrhagic E. Coli (EHEC) in cucumbers of conventional and organic production production from Spain. Warning notification is of a low risk level through which the Member States must take necessary preventive measures.

Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has taken the following actions:

1.The Agency is in the process of contacting all retailers, suppliers and caterers in relation to an outbreak of E Coli in Germany to ensure there is no contaminated product here.The probe will cover all fresh vegetables, imported from European Union countries. Samples are available for micro-organisms and will be announced within 72 hours.

2. The Agency sent an information  letter to all directors of the Regional Food Safety Directorates to carry out massive checks for the presence of cucumber batches of Spainish origin, as if such are found, they will be impounded, analyzed and after the results will be released on the market.
